Role Summary
Spoilz is looking for an Animator to join our team on a new character-driven mobile game – designed for younger players and built with care, charm, and expressive storytelling in mind.
The role will focus on animating gameplay characters, player avatars, and stylised in-game scenes. Our ideal candidate knows how to bring characters to life in gameplay – not through traditional cinematic rigs, but through expressive, modular movement that reacts to player input and feels joyful to watch.
You’ll be animating in your tool of choice (e.g. Blender or Maya), exporting into Unity, and working closely with the VP of Creative, AD, designers, tech artists, and other creatives to deliver animations that enhance the moment-to-moment experience of play.
Key Responsibilities
- Animate gameplay characters with stylised, personality-rich motion that supports mechanics and player feedback
- Create playful, emotive animations for avatars and scene-based interactions
- Contribute to camera movement and scene animation for scripted sequences or reward moments
- Use tools like Blender or Maya for rigging and animation, exporting cleanly into Unity
- Implement and iterate animations within Unity using Animator Controllers, Timeline, and blend trees
- Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure smooth animation integration and gameplay responsiveness
- Develop animation libraries and systems that support reusable, modular animation logic
- Bring fresh ideas for expression, humour, and energy through animation
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience animating for games in Unity
- Strong portfolio showing stylised, expressive character animation in a game context
- Proficient in Blender, Maya, or equivalent 3D animation tools
- Experienced in exporting and implementing animations into Unity (Animator, Timeline, etc.)
- Comfortable animating with creative constraints (e.g. stylised rigs, abstract proportions, non-human characters)
- Able to prototype movement ideas quickly and iterate based on playtests
- Collaborative and communicative—comfortable working across tech, art, and design
- Passionate about character animation and delivering joyful player experiences
Preferred
- Experience animating for younger audiences (ages 6–12)
- Experience with modular character rigs and UGC-friendly animation systems
- Knowledge of Unity animation scripting or procedural animation
- Familiarity with camera animation and shot composition in Unity
- Cultural fluency in GCC/MENA or Arabic language skills
- Interest in education-through-play, playful storytelling, or kids’ media
